Rehmat Foundation in action in Pakistan
Uplifting Mental Health of Women in PakistanThe mental health of women in Pakistan was the focus of a training workshop by the Institute of Psychology at Quaid e Azam University in Islamabad in May of 2024.
Dr. Fayyaz Hussain, professor in integrative studies at Michigan State University USA and an advisor to Rehmat Foundation, organized and participated in 4 weeks training workshop entitled “ Uplifting Mental Health of Women: Fostering Psychological Wellbeing of Women through capacity building”. There were 90 professionals who participated in the workshop including psychologists, physicians psychiatrists, social workers, NGO executives, and graduate students. Most of the trainees were women. Dr Naqvi and Dr Sara from the Department of Psychology helped Dr Fayyaz in these sessions.

Visited Nishtar Medical University and discussed with Vice-Chancellor Professor Mehnaaz Khakwani the need to renovate the psychiatric unit. Dr Khakwani agreed and work is in progress.

Visited the Secretary of School Education South Punjab, Dr. Ubaid Ullah Khokhar and his staff, who were very appreciative of our work and extended full support.
February 21, 2024
RF paid a surprise visit to 2 elementary schools. The teachers and students were very appreciative of our work. One of the schools has total of 3 rooms, 2 without roofs and RF installed the roofs. One of the students said, “Thank you for saving us from the cold”. She also asked for a swing.
Then we had a second meeting with the young women in the Women Empowerment Program. The women were very enthusiastic about giving back to their community. RF and the group designed environment-friendly shopping bags.
We also visited the utility store which RF has contracted to provide the rations to 65 needy families in Maitla Chowk. We decided to increase the food items for each family.

RF Had a meeting with VC Professor Khakwani, Dr Syed Shams, and Dr Khalil at the Simulation Lab. Followed by a visit to the operating rooms and psychiatric ward at Nishtar.
In the evening we had dinner with the board members, VC NMU, the architects of the simulation lab and operating rooms, and other dignitaries from Multan hosted by Dr Rana Altaf and Mian Muhammad Younus.

Drs Ghulam Qadir and Huda Zenati met with Chairman Dr Zafar Qadir and CEO Asim Mushtaq of Taaleem Foundation and discussed the collaboration between Rehmat Foundation and Taaleem Foundation in the areas of Women Empowerment and E-Schooling in District Khanewal.

RF and TF had a meeting with 16 young women from the Women Empowerment Program in Chak #115/10-R Tehsil Jahania to evaluate their progress and address their concerns.
February 17, 2024 – Meeting with Department of Education Officials.
RF had a meeting with the additional secretary of school education, ADC Khanewal, Education officer Khanewal, deputy education officer Jahania, teachers, parents, and community leaders in Jahania to discuss the impact of the E-Learning program and future plans. There were requests from several other schools to extend the E-Learning program to their schools.
February 16 visit to the schools with E-Schooling:
Rehmat Foundation and Taaleem Foundation visited 5 elementary/ middle schools where we introduced E-learning last year. The team met with the students, teachers, parents, and community leaders. It was very heartwarming to see the confidence, interaction, and enthusiasm among the students. Parents and community leaders were excited and appreciative of what the Rehmat Foundation and Taaleem Foundation are doing for their community.[/vc_column_text]
February 15, 2024 – Free Medical Camp.
The Rehmat Foundation (RF) held a free medical camp at THQ Jahania. A team of 8 experts in different specialties saw over 400 patients.
RF is grateful to the following physicians for their great contributions toward the success of the event: Drs Wasima Talat GYN, Naweed Sadiq and Salman Naweed ophthalmology, Ali Bukhari pediatric cardiac surgery, Uzma Masood oncology, Saba Syed psychiatry, Ghulam Qadir psychiatry, and Huda Zenati psychology. We had the privilege to meet with MS THQ and AC Jahania for collaboration to improve medical services in the area.

The presenters talked about various topics including medical ethics, substance abuse, stress management, perinatal psychiatry, and mental health advocacy. Dr. Ghulam Qadir also discussed with the chairman of PMDC the importance of including more courses in mental health in the Medical college curriculum.

Renovation of Operating Rooms at Nishtar Hospital
We were pleased to attend the inauguration of the renovated operating rooms. Many thanks to the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Altaf Rana, the Principal Dr. Iftikhar Khan and all the donors who made this possible.
We had many visits/meetings with Drs Altaf Rana, Iftikhar Khan, Khalil Ahmad, Ali Bukhari, Kalim Ullah, and the contractors to finalize the project which will be completed by the end of 2022.
Rehmat Foundation Simulation Learning Center at Nishtar
We met with Dr. Shams and his team, to discuss the project and toured the location. The project will start in May of 2022.
Global Medicine Initiative Program
We are very grateful to the administration of all the medical colleges who met with us to evaluate the program. This program started 2 years ago. We are very pleased with their feedback and ways to improve it. we are very grateful to Dr. Ali Bukhari and Mr. Mohamed Araf for implementing the program. Dr. Daha was a great asset for connecting us with various medical colleges.

The visits to five schools in Muzaffar Garh and Khanewal Districts warmed our hearts. Meeting the students, the teachers, administrators and touring the Einstein Learning Center with Asif Leghari was inspirational. We admire the resilience of the students and the teachers despite their daily challenges.
